Nat Gonella

In November 1974 the great Nat Gonella visited a club in Leamington Spa, and although he was already 66 he was still blowing like a youngster. Connections with the 'Gas Club' (Leamington Priors Gas Company Social Club) were established during the war, and he more or less maintained contact with local musicians Stan Rawlings (pno), Ron Rawlings (dr) and Laurie Hall (bass), so when he was booked into a Birmingham theatre to take part in a 'Golden Memories' show what should be more natural than a return to the Gas Club one evening, to join his friends in what turned out to be a magnificent and lively performance.
